Beatles biopic rumours swirl in Bangor as film crews descend on city

Beatles biopic rumours

The Beatles famously visited Bangor in 1967 for a seminar at Bangor Normal College on Transcendental Meditation run by its founder the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Official response and confirmed impact

Two days after they arrived by train, they learned of the tragic death in London of their manager Brian Epstein and cut their trip short.

So it would be no surprise if filmmakers making the much-anticipated biopics of the Fab Four decided to descend on Bangor.

Indeed, tantalisingly, that could be what happened this week.

Period vehicles were parked outside the Grade II listed Hen Goleg, or Old College, built in a Jacobean style in 1858.

There were two drably-painted vehicles, each marked "Bangor 2348 Radio Taxi", at the top of the steps.

Nearby was an old delivery van with "North Wales Chronicle" painted on it. Lorries transporting film equipment were also present.

Incident background

Nevertheless, the historic visit to North Wales – the entourage featured Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull – left its mark in the annals of musical history.
