Above video: Wednesday evening headlines (9/30) Fire and emergency medical coverage is expanding across southern Jasper County as Hardeeville takes the next step in a regional effort to send nearby crews to emergencies more quickly.

The stations are: Station 34 on Mead Road Station 25 on Levy Road Station 20 on Bellinger Hill According to the city, emergency crews will no longer be dispatched based solely on jurisdictional boundaries.

Instead, the closest available fire engine or ambulance will respond whenever possible.

For residents, that could mean shorter wait times for help during a fire, medical emergency or rescue.

City officials said the regional approach also is designed to reduce duplication of equipment and make better use of taxpayer-funded resources.

1, the Hardeeville Fire Department will assume operations at three additional stations as part of 'Operation Phoenix,' the city announced Sept. 30.

As part of the expanded deployment, the department will staff a fire engine and an ambulance at Station 25.
