Officials ordered the immediate evacuation of Hatch, New Mexico, as a dangerous flash flood emergency developed across the Hatch Valley.

Evacuations were also underway in nearby Rincon, Salem and Garfield as intense runoff moved through the area.

Emergency officials warned that several retention dams were near capacity, raising concerns about rapidly worsening flooding.

Video recorded earlier Tuesday showed severe flooding conditions in the area as authorities urged residents in threatened locations to move to higher ground immediately.
