Naugatuck break-in suspect arrested at Tweed airport while trying to flee

A man wanted for breaking into a Naugatuck home was arrested at Tweed New Haven Airport Saturday while attempting to flee the area on a flight, police said.

Arrest and charges

Police said officers were called to a town home after an individual reported that a man, later identified as Cooper, had forcefully entered the residence.

Police noted that Cooper was known to one of the home's occupants and no longer resided in the home at the time of the break-in.

Cooper fled the home after one the residents confronted him and displayed a firearm that they were lawfully carrying, police said. No injuries were reported.

Police said New Haven officers then found Cooper waiting for a flight and took him into custody without issue.

Charges and court proceedings

Taijon Marquest Cooper, 32, of Bridgeport, was held on a $200,000 bond before being arraigned in state Superior Court in Waterbury Tuesday.

“During this investigation, officers received information that Taijon might be at Tweed Airport attempting to flee,” police said.

Cooper was charged with first-degree burglary, disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal mischief in connection with the break-in.
