Coastal Flood Warning Issued for Parts of New York City Through Sunday

A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for vulnerable coastal areas of New York City from Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27.

High tides and strong onshore winds could flood low-lying roads, waterfront properties and other flood-prone locations. Other parts of the city are under a Coastal Flood Advisory.

Basement Residents Urged to Move Higher

New Yorkers living in basement apartments should be prepared to move to higher ground or an upper floor if flooding begins.

Residents should stay out of flooded basements because rising water can create life-threatening drowning and electrical hazards.

Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roads or areas where the water’s depth is unknown.

Residents should call 311 if flooding makes roads impassable, damages property or persists for more than 48 hours. Call 911 during an immediate life-threatening emergency.
