MBS International Airport to break ground on snow removal equipment facility expansion

MBS International Airport will break ground on the expansion of its Snow Removal Equipment Facility, an investment in the airport’s operational infrastructure and winter operations.

Airport officials said the project will support the airport’s ability to maintain airfield safety while improving operational efficiency and protection of equipment.

“Living in Michigan, we know winter weather is inevitable,” said James Canders, airport director of MBS International Airport.

“This expansion represents an important investment in the airport’s future and will enhance our ability to respond to snow and ice events safely and efficiently.

By providing additional space and modernized facilities for staff and our snow removal equipment, we can better serve the traveling public, our airline partners, and the communities of the Great Lakes Bay Region.”

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the MBS International Airport SRE Facility, located at 8580 W.

The SRE Facility expansion will provide additional space for the storage, maintenance and deployment of specialized snow removal equipment used to keep airport runways, taxiways and aprons operational during Michigan’s winter weather conditions.
