Testimony begins in trial of Capitol Police officers charged with killing Jaylen Lewis in 2022

Testimony began Wednesday in the trial to determine whether the deadly shooting of Jaylen Lewis by two Capitol Police officers was lawful.

Stephen Frederick and Michael Rhinewalt face manslaughter charges in the death of Lewis, who was killed four years ago this week in Jackson.

According to previous reports, the officers stopped Lewis following a traffic violation at Mayes and West streets.

Frederick and Rhinewalt said they fired in self-defense when Lewis drove toward them, while a passenger in the vehicle said Lewis was attempting to get away.
