The FORMULA 1 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX 2022 Returns to the Streets of Baku

Baku, Azerbaijan (10th June 2022) – Three years since fans last sat in the grandstands for the most unpredictable race on the racing calendar, Baku City Circuit has opened its gates today for an exhilarating weekend of action at the FORMULA 1 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX 2022. Fans are being welcomed back to cheer on their teams and favourite drivers as they take on the winding streets of Baku

This is Formula 1’s sixth visit to the coastal city since it’s debut in 2016 where it quickly became a fan-favourite for its narrow sections, tight corners and high speed straight set to a stunning historic backdrop of the city’s old and new landmarks. Since its debut race it has earend a reputation for providing some of the most dramatic moments of each F1 season. Who can forget Max Verstappen’s race ending tyre failure or Lewis Hamilton’s costly mistake at the 2021 restart? Or Daniel Ricciardo’s incredible triple overtake into turn one in 2017? One thing is for sure: this weekend will be filled with exciting racing action

Today’s schedule is packed on and off track, starting with the drivers’ press conferences in the morning. In the afternoon, the Street Fighters will take part in the first two Free Practice sessions, giving them the opportunity to navigate the circuit that has proven to be so unforgiving in the past, in preparation for the all-important Qualifying session tomorrow

Fans will also be treated to outings by the Formula 1 feeder series, Formula 2 with a Free Practice and Qualifying session setting out the grid for tomorrow’s sprint race

For some, the fun has already started as 3 day ticket holders were invited to take part in a special pitlane walk yesterday where they were treated to an inside look of teams hard at work in the garages. A must for any fan!

They were also able to take a stroll along the stunning seaside boulevard home to the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Fanzone. The area is packed with activities for all the family to enjoy, with live music and entertainment also on offer throughout the weekend guaranteeing a full festival experience for all visitors
