DHS Says Officer Fired in Self-Defense During Minneapolis ICE Operation

Anti-ICE protest shooting update follows an official statement from the Department of Homeland Security clarifying the incident reported earlier.

Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary at DHS, said an ICE operation in Minneapolis turned violent when a rioter allegedly attempted to run down federal agents with a vehicle. According to DHS, an officer fired in self-defense in response.

The suspect was killed, while the federal officers involved survived the incident. DHS said the situation remains under investigation, and no further details were immediately released.

Earlier reports described a shooting during an anti-ICE protest. Authorities say the updated account reflects preliminary findings based on officer statements.
