Providence fire crews responded to the area of Washington and Clemence streets around 2 p.m. following reports of an explosion, according to a city spokesperson.
Firefighters determined there was a “small underground electrical fire” that caused a manhole to dislodge.
The intersection is currently blocked off and some buildings have been evacuated.
