UPDATE: 5 people injured in shooting following Mardi Gras parade in Franklinton, LA

FRANKLINTON, La. (WVUE) – A shooting following the Pepe Mardi Gras Parade in Franklinton left five people injured Sunday night (March 2), authorities said. One victim remains in critical condition.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. near the parade route, according to Franklinton police. 

Officers and Washington Parish sheriff’s deputies, already stationed in the area, rushed to the victims and provided emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived.

Two of the victims were treated and released from area hospitals, police said. Two others remain hospitalized in stable but guarded condition, while a fifth victim is in critical condition.

Authorities have taken a person of interest into custody as detectives continue searching for additional suspects.
