A man has died following the East Chicago shooting early Friday morning in northwest Indiana’s East Chicago area.
According to the East Chicago Police Department, around 12:49 a.m. on July 18, officers patrolling near Sunnyside Park heard multiple gunshots. Their gunshot detection device alerted them to 10 rounds fired in the 2600 block of East 141st Street.

Officers arrived at the scene of the East Chicago shooting to find two vehicles damaged by gunfire and several shell casings on the ground. While searching for a possible suspect, police were notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at a nearby hospital’s emergency room.
Victim’s Condition and Hospital Transfer After the East Chicago Shooting
The victim was reported unresponsive and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The victim’s name is withheld pending family notification.
