Photo shows significant tornado damage on the north side of Purvis, Mississippi, including a heavily damaged church.

According to the pastor, people inside the church had been preparing for service when they took shelter in a hallway behind the sanctuary moments before the storm struck.

Officials say everyone inside is safe.

The tornado caused widespread destruction across parts of the community as severe weather moved through the area.
